The Evolution of IGEN ENVIRONTHON: A Marathon for Climate Action

Aligned with the Panchabhutas and the SDGs for Climate Action, the Institution of Green Engineers (IGEN) launched IGEN ENVIRONTHON, a climate action marathon conceived during the peak of the COVID-19 crisis. Driven by the urgent need to address rising temperatures and their impacts, this initiative is anchored to the United Nations World Environment Day, symbolizing a unified global commitment to sustainability through the annual theme of the UN COP (UN Climate Change Conference).

IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2020 — The Beginning

The inaugural edition set a remarkable benchmark as a world record attempt, hosting a 16.46-hour non-stop virtual conference. This pioneering event brought together 20 countries, 20 international speakers, 20 Indian speakers, and 10 partner organizations. Its unprecedented scale and impact earned recognition from both the Limca Book of Records (LBR) and the World Book of Records London (WBR).

IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2024 — The Second Wave

Building on the success of its debut, the second edition of IGEN ENVIRONTHON was held in connection with World Environment Day, spanning 29.30 continuous hours. This landmark event united 29 partners, international speakers from 29 countries, national speakers from 29 states, and local speakers from 29 districts. Participants deliberated on 29 themes aligned with COP29, 29 SDG targets, and 29 topics linked to the conservation of the Panchabhutas, with recommendations submitted to COP29 members. A new world record application has been filed and is pending approval.

IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2025 — The Third Edition

The third edition of this non-stop MARATHON, certified by the Limca Book of Records (LBR) and the World Book of Records London (WBR), will feature 30 continuous hours of deliberation on the Panchabhutas. The event will unite 36 partners from 36 countries, 36 states, and 36 districts, with 366 speakers contributing insights on 30 Climate Action targets aligned with the SDGs and 30 themes connected to COP30, which will take place in Brazil from 10 to 21 November 2025.

The theme of IGEN ENVIRONTHON 2025 is “Climate Adaptation and Financing to Sustain Harmony with the Five Elements (Panchabhutas)”. This theme aims to support climate change mitigation in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will contribute actionable summit recommendations for COP30.
